Genuine or fake: how to avoid counterfeit plumbing
Counterfeits of popular brands are common and can be hard to tell apart. These simple rules will protect you.
“Is it genuine?” is one of the most common questions from our customers — and a fair one: pipes and valves are hidden in walls, and fixing poor-quality parts means breaking the finish.
5 rules to avoid counterfeits
1. Buy from an official distributor
An official distributor gets products directly from the manufacturer. Ask whether the seller is an official representative and request a certificate.
2. A price that’s too low is a red flag
If the same product is noticeably cheaper elsewhere, it’s probably not the same product.
3. Check markings and packaging
Genuine products have clear manufacturer markings, neat packaging and documents — a product passport or instructions.
4. Pay attention to the material
Quality ball valve bodies are made of brass; cheap copies add lead and zinc to the alloy, and such valves oxidize over time.
5. Check warranty and returns
An honest seller will calmly explain the warranty and take the product back if it doesn’t fit.
